Summer & Fall 2009 Programs

The Office of International Education and Programs (OIEP) supports all international activities of the university's academic departments; encourages the study of foreign languages and cultures; organizes lectures and colloquia on international issues; seeks to internationalize the curriculum and campus cultural life; and works to increase the number of international students attending Oswego and the number of American students studying abroad. The OIEP is divided into sections: the Overseas Academic Programs (OAP) section and the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) section.

The OAP section sends hundreds of students per year to study in other countries. About one-third of these students come from SUNY Oswego, one-third from other SUNY schools, and the remaining one-third from other universities and colleges across the United States. The OAP section currently offers more than 30 study abroad sites in 15 countries around the world. It also offers international internships and teaching opportunities. Read about the experiences of our study abroad students and see their photos in our Globe-trotters pages.

The ISSS holds an orientation at the start of each semester for the newly arriving international students, who number about 100 per year and come from 25-30 countries. This orientation focuses not only on campus life, but also on life within the United States. ISSS also sponsors trips for international students to sights of historical and cultural interest.
